1970's ALFRED SHAHEEN Tunic Style Pantsuit
Alfred Shaheen prints made waves from the 1950's thought the 1970's and 80's. His textiles were all hand printed and based on the landscape of the Hawaiian islands and tapa cloth designs. He was best known for his works in the 1950's but made a strong resurgence in the 1970's when Island culture and lifestyle became a part of pop culture in the US.
This particular piece is simple fantastic and somewhat rare. Most of his clothing was colorful and -as mentioned- based on Island colors. Rarely did he use black as a base with vivid and bright pink. The top is mod tunic style with Asian cheongsam inspiration while the plain black pants help to make the iconic set complete.
